Capello: "Fonseca needs time to get his ideas across"
New Socceroos coach Tony Popovic has appointed former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca as his assistant.
Fonseca, 49, has been out of work since he was sacked by Roma in May 2021.
He has previously coached Shakhtar Donetsk and Braga, and has a reputation for playing attacking football.
Popovic said he was excited to have Fonseca on his staff.
"Paulo is a very experienced coach who has a proven track record of success," Popovic said.
"He is a great addition to our staff and I am looking forward to working with him."
Fonseca said he was looking forward to the challenge of working with the Socceroos.
"I am very excited to be joining the Socceroos and I am looking forward to working with Tony and the players," Fonseca said.
"I believe that we can achieve great things together."
Capello: "Fonseca needs time to get his ideas across"
Former England manager Fabio Capello believes that Fonseca will need time to get his ideas across to the Socceroos players.
"Fonseca is a good coach, but he will need time to get his ideas across to the players," Capello said.
"The Socceroos are a good team, but they need to play a more attacking style of football."
Fonseca's appointment has been met with mixed reactions from Socceroos fans.
Some fans are excited about the prospect of Fonseca working with the team, while others are concerned about his lack of experience coaching at international level.
Only time will tell whether Fonseca can be a success with the Socceroos.
